There are dozens of beer pumps lined up, a wall of backlit whisky; within the nook a tantalizing walk-in humidor stocked with high-quality Cuban and New World smokes. That is my type of place. CASC – which stands for Cigars, Ale, Scotch and Espresso – is in Aberdeen, Scotland. Maybe not the primary place that springs to thoughts when considering of a cool brew bar. However that is one thing particular. With about two dozen ales on faucet – Belgian brews, micro US specials, sturdy and gentle beers, stout, and extra – it’s also possible to select from a bewildering array of small batch, singleorigin espresso, served in a lot of methods. The “pour over” is the espresso service du jour in the meanwhile, it appears, and it’s theater to look at a mini-Bunsen burner beneath a bulbous glass flask and the light technique of heating and dripping via the espresso.
The bar, run by Paul West and his father, comes alive within the night, and when you’ve had a glass of beer or two, it’s unattainable to not dip into the number of whiskies: silent distilleries, particular editions, distinctive cask finishes, and hard-to-find Scotch malts. Together with your massive dram, select your weapon from the humidor: Drew Property, Joya de Nicaragua, Padrón or Cuba’s Partagás, Cohiba or Hoyo de Monterrey. Underneath the lined, heated terrace you’re in heaven. The Scots are pleasant and love nothing greater than a chat. You’re certain to make new pals. And it’ll quickly be time for a top-up.
