What is a challenge coin? A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion (usually military), bearing an organizations insignia or emblem and carried by the organization’s members. Traditionally, they are given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. In addition, they are also collected by service members. In practice, challenge coins are normally presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit.
Some use the coin for “The challenge”, which can be made at any time, begins with the challenger drawing his or her coin, and slapping or placing the coin on the table or bar. Everyone being challenged must immediately produce the coin for their organization and anyone failing to do so must buy a round of drinks for the challenger and everyone else who has their challenge coin.
The CEO of Survivors Edge received his first challenge coin while serving in the United States Marine Corps back in the early 80’s. Now he carries one every day from wife. It’s a “Pride, Commitment, Service” fireman’s coin by Northwest Territorial Mint. Whether in his turnout gear for fires, or station gear for medical calls, it’s in his left front pocket. It reminds him of the love, care and honor his wife has for him, as well as prayers for his safe return. It’s just a coin. It has no magical powers. But give one of these to someone you hold close in your heart, and it will become infinitely much more powerful than a round piece of metal.
The bold fighting spirit of America’s military men and women is captured in the classic slogan: “Don’t Tread on Me.” This enduring motto, which traces its origins to America’s Revolutionary War, still serves as an emblem of the strength of the world’s most powerful military force.
This coin honors our forefathers, who risk their lives to secure our country’s freedom. The obverse replicates the design of the original ensign displayed by American forces in the Revolutionary War. The reverse bears the likeness of the Liberty Bell, along with a quote by John F. Kennedy: “We dare not forget that we are the heirs of that first revolution.”
Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is imbued with enamel accents on both sides.
This coin is perfect for your Marine, American Patriot, or their family members.
